Interior Designer

NICOLA MCEWAN

Design, for me, begins with understanding how a space is lived in and how it should feel. I focus on creating environments that support daily life while offering a sense of calm, character, and quiet confidence.

I’m Nicola McEwan, founder of Mandeville Home. With over 23 years of experience across residential and commercial interiors, I bring a considered, intuitive approach to transforming spaces into refined, personal sanctuaries. Every project is shaped through close attention to light, materiality, proportion, and how individual elements work together to form a cohesive whole.

My design foundation was formed at the Glasgow School of Art, following earlier studies in Fine Art. This education instilled a strong respect for craftsmanship, artistry, and thoughtful composition — principles that continue to guide my work today. I began my career at architectural practice Greig & Stephenson, contributing to hospitality and F&B projects across London and Europe, before moving into residential design.

A particularly defining project involved the redesign of a 15-bedroom guest house for Lady Salisbury at the Hatfield Estate. Working closely with architects and English Heritage, I helped merge two buildings while integrating furniture and textiles drawn from the wider estate, ensuring the interiors respected both history and function.

Collaboration is central to my process. I work closely with each client to understand their lifestyle, creative vision, and priorities, ensuring every space feels authentic and considered. I introduce carefully selected moments — sculptural forms, tactile finishes, and nuanced lighting — to elevate the everyday without excess. Materials are chosen for their integrity and longevity, colours for their depth and resonance.

The result is interiors that are quietly expressive, functional, and enduring. Spaces that feel natural to live in, rich in detail, and deeply personal — designed to be experienced, not just seen.
